Where There Is An Extinguished People… The Shadow Of The Wrong Doers Remain…

Thunderheart…

That Preview by No Means Captures Remotely the Caliber of This Film…

And Let Me Tell You Why

It All Begins With A Murder

On an Indian Reservation

Which by the way, is one of the Best Scenes in the Film… Filmed Just Beautifully

Enter Val Kilmer’s Character

An FBI Agent, who is basically chosen to be on the case, because he happens to have some Native American Blood

And they’re hoping that this fact helps to get the Natives on the Reservation to Cooperate on the case

But Things are not what they seem…

Or at least, that’s what the Local Res Sheriff goes on to say

But Val Kilmer’s Character is not quickly convinced…

And goes about the case, ‘business as usual’

Hunting down an Activist Leader, The FBI is convinced is behind the murder

Or are they

But while everything seems to head them down an easy road, with a quick arrest…

Val Kilmer’s Past, coupled by a ‘visceral gut instinct’

Leads him down a trail of Self Discovery, and a Very Painful Truth

If you’ve Seen Val Kilmer in “Tombstone”… Then You Know Just How Powerful an Actor he can be… He is simply Brilliant in this Film

Graham Greene is also both Excellent, and Hilarious

And Sam Shepard, also Brilliant

But beyond the Powerful Acting in this Film, the Cinematography is Gorgeous… The Music is both Powerful, and Captivating…

The Story, which is loosely based on real events, is Solid, and Intriguing

This Film is a True, and Actual Mystery… Leading the Watcher down an Absolute Road in which the further the Film goes, the more you find yourself drawn in.

See this Film if you have not… You will definitely not regret it… It’s one of My Favorite Val Kilmer Films.

DarkJade’s Films of Meaning – Jerry Maguire

by DarkJade

Never Compromise Who You Are… Or You May End Up Way Down A Road, And Not Able To Recognize The Person You See In The Mirror

Jerry Maguire…

I remember when the previews were out for this Film back in 1996. The way they were selling it, at least in America, was in my Opinion a Sports Film (In Order to get the Guys to come see it), and they knew they could get the girls just by having Tom Cruise in it.

Well Let Me Tell You Right now, this Film was much more than this.

At First a lot of Guys got in there and were like “Oh man, This is a Romantic Comedy”…

But that’s not right either.

This Film is about several things…

First of all, the Utter Collapse of a Human Being… I know what you’re thinking, that’s a bit Deep for a Smiley Tom Cruise Film… But that’s exactly what it was.

And How Would I Recognize this through all of the Comedy, Charm and Snappy/Sharp Whit?

Because as Fortune would have it, I was going through the “Exact Same Thing”…

Yes, two years after this Film came out, I Walked away from the Good Paying Corporate America Job Forever… And began the Quest of My Own Personal Dreams…

But that’s another Story… For Another Time.

Now Don’t get me wrong for a Moment… Cuba Gooding Jr. Was Frigging Brilliant…

I Laughed so damn Hard when I saw that Scene… And I still do, Lol

But The Truth was, Jerry Maguire’s Life was Falling apart…

And Right in the Middle of this Utter, Borderline Dysfunctional Collapse, and Gigantic Identity Crisis… He met a girl…

That’s one of the other things this Film is About… “The Importance of “Timing” When Getting Involved with some.”

Now Don’t get me Wrong… They definitely Love one another in this Film…

But for the First 2/3’s of This Film, The Beam of Light that is Her Love for Him, is what basically carried them through Friendship, and into a Heart felt Passionate Love Affair…

But then the Bottom Fell out… And he was lost and Spinning… And she was taking cover, well he spent some time Truly Coming Into Himself, who he had only Now Gotten Back in Touch with…

The other thing this Film is about, is Heart…

And Man… It has a lot of it

Love…

Courage…

Choice…

Be Your Dreams… Live, Your Dreams

DarkJade’s Films of Meaning – Salmon Fishing In The Yemen

Love… Beauty… Romance… And Friendship

Salmon Fishing In The Yemen…

I used a Video Preview that included an Interview with these two actors to demonstrate the chemistry they have, which very much comes across in the Film…

From other Individual Interviews I watched after seeing the Film, they both indicated that they very much hit it off…

But there is a Third Piece to this puzzle…

An Actor by the name Amr Waked…

The Chemistry between not only Amr Waked and Ewan McGregor, but also between Emily Blunt and Amr Waked… And finally, as demonstrated by the Original Clip, Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, is really the key to this Film…

For me, it is very Seldom that I Truly Enjoy a New Film These days…

A lot of it has to do with the main focus being “Making a Blockbuster”…

But with this Film, this is obviously not the Focus…

I left this Film feeling Three Things…

One, Each of these Three Actors is Amazing… And Frankly, I would Cast the Exact Three again on a whole New Project in a heartbeat.

In fact, they would actually be great in a “Block Buster”, as easily as a Heartfelt Independent Film like this one.

The 2nd thing I felt was, these are some “Amazing” Locations… In My Experience The Desert, though notoriously hot, can be one of the most Beautiful Places “Visually” in the world…

Especially at Sunrise, and Sunset

The Third Feeling, “Sincerely Romantic”… Not just Ewan and Emily, but Romantic about Life…

The Little Things… The Medium Things… And the Large Things Equally

Don’t let the “Lame” Title of this Film Fool you… Unlike the Interviewer, I “Hate” Film Titles that cut and dry specific, Lol

I Feel Any Story Truly Begins with the Title, and as a Writer, you want it to be something that Lures People in… (No pun intended, Lol)

But I am a Romantic, and Passionate Film Maker… Though now turned Writer

I might have called it “Love, Beauty, Life”…

Perhaps a bit Vague, but I have to tell you, the “Salmon Fishing” itself is fairly irrelevant, other than being an Instrument to Bring Three Great Minds Together, to send a Powerful and Symbolic Message to the Sheikh’s People.

One of Hope… Beauty… And Change

But for me the Film’s Messages are the “Simplicity” of Love…

The Importance of “Friendship”

And the “Beauty” of this Planet we live in…

Not bad for the Price of a Video Rental

DarkJade’s Films of Meaning – The Karate Kid

by DarkJade

Some Meaningful Films Come In The Simplest Of Packages… Some Challenges Merely Take Focus…

The Karate Kid…

Maybe it’s because I was a kid growing up in the 70’s and 80’s that this Film really hit home for me… Or maybe it’s because I was brought up by a Single Mom that didn’t have a lot of Money… Like Daniel. Though I had a Brother Around, so I was not a Single Child. I also had two sisters, but they weren’t around much.

Whatever it was, “The Karate Kid” had a very Profound Meaning to me.

There is an Abundance of Messages in this Film… Take that Scene Above.

Bullying is something that has never gone away for kids in schools… Never.

Making that Scene, and many of the scenes, completely relevant, even now.

I Was a Shy Kid Growing Up… And My Brother and I missed a lot of School in Junior High… Mainly because My Mom was fairly “Anti Public” School…

Though She couldn’t afford to send us to Private School.

And so kids harassed My Brother and I when we’d miss a few days in a row on occasion.

Mom meant well… But in the end, it made going to School pretty terrible.

On the flip side, we had an Amazing, Creative Childhood.

Beyond the Bullying in this Film, there’s also the Idea of “Simplicity”… Which is shown by the Miyagi Character.

Simplicity… Focus… Dedication.

All Immensely Valuable Lessons, that can be Used in Every Area of Life.

Daniel wasn’t just some “Gifted” Martial Artist who merely needed to be shown the way…

He was a Normal Kid, with a Huge Heart, and his Pain and Suffering mainly acted as a Catalyst to Improve Himself.

Granted, The Music is a bit Dated in this Film, Lol

But The Ideals of Simplicity, Focus, Heart, Dedication and Belief in One’s Self that “YOU” can Achieve things in your life, and overcome Obstacles, and/or Hindrances on your Path, Remain True.

This Next Video Clip is of the Final Scenes in the Film, if for some reason you haven’t seen the Film, you may not want to watch it.

Like I say, maybe it’s just because I was a Kid in the 70’s and 80’s, as I Loved The Original Rocky As Well… And this Film Definitely Caught some of that Triumph that was felt in that Film as well.

Nuff Said
