DarkJade’s Films of Meaning – Amadeus
by DarkJade
Back in the 80’s there came a Film with Immense Depth and Impact…
Amadeus.
One of the Coolest Things about Amadeus is it was made some 28 years ago, and yet watching it, you’d never know.
That’s because frankly, This Film is Timeless…
Now there are a hand full of Films that I simply Love, but only watch on a Rare Occasion. One Being Franko Zeffirelli’s 1968 Romeo And Juliet…
One Being Baz Luhrmann’s Moulon Rouge!
And the other being Amadeus…
And Let me tell you why.
Each of these Films are Brilliant, but also, Very Sad…
In Fact they all Basically Break My Heart… And so, I might watch each of them maybe every 2 or 3 years… At most.
But That’s Just Me.
The Bottom Line, is Each of These Films is Brilliant, Deep, and Heart Felt… A Must See really, especially for the True Romantic at Heart.
At The Helm of this Grand Adventure that is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Life, is Tom Hulce…
Tom Hulce’s Performance is Memorable, Emotional/Passionate and Hilarious…
In fact rumor has it that the laugh he uses in this Film he actually created for the Character/Role, and after the Making of The Film was never able to do it again.
Tom Hulce was Nominated for an Oscar for This Role.
But The Actor that actually walked away with the Oscar in this Film, was F. Murray Abraham… And I have to tell you, he is Tremendous.
And The Makeup for him as an Older Man, Exceptional.
But as I watched it just last week, the Performance by a man that I came to love in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Mr. Jeffrey Jones…
Also known for his Role in Beetlejuice…
But in his Role as Emperor Joseph II, He Truly Shined.
Now Keep in Mind, I have always loved his character in this Film…
Frankly, he’s a Comedic Genius.
But all these years later, it is truly He that is the Most Timeless in This Film… Watch and see. He is Hilarious.
Amadeus is not simply a Historical Period Piece, but rather a Testimonial of The Love of Music, and the Innate Talent of My Absolute All Time Favorite Composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart…
See This Film…
If Not for the Sheer Genius of The Acting, Production, or Directing…
Than See It For The Music…
The Music…
The Music
Thanks for Reading/Listening

Loved Amadeus, a long film but worth watching – and I’m not much of a classical music fan.

This film really resonates with me because I always sympathize deeply with the man who loves music so dearly and never takes it for granted but wasn’t gifted with the genius of Mozart. I love singing and dedicated myself to it for as many years of school as I was allowed; I worked to get good at memorizing songs within minutes and fine tuned my hearing to learn the exact notes I needed to sing (it helped that I had sung under a teacher that had perfect pitch for 5 years), but no matter how hard I work there isn’t anything I can do to change to voice I was born with. I’ll never be able to effortlessly sound brilliant like several girls I’ve run across. One was a sophomore girl in my high school advanced choir;she had the voice of an angel and didn’t even have to try to make it sound that way. The other was a girl a little bit older than me who was in the karaoke contest with me at an anime convention. She sang Moulin Rouge and the power, precision, and beauty far outstripped anything I’ve heard before in my life. That girl absolutely nailed every single note. She could have a recording contract in a heartbeat.
This movie leaves me sobbing.

We’re all Born Differently that’s for sure… I’m a Writer who Can’t Draw… If I could, I would be Writing and Drawing My Own Comic Books, but I can’t… So instead I have to find someone that can Draw them for me, which has been quite a challenge… I did find an Amazing Artist, and she did some drawings for me that turned out great… But then I took a break from Writing, and recontacted her recently… But now she’s too busy to work with me… And I’m stuck with all these Pictures in My Head that I want to get out, and have to try all over again to find anyone that can Draw remotely like the visions in my head… All of my Comic Book Projects are basically on hold because of it.
So I understand what you mean… But in all Honesty, I wouldn’t Change a thing about myself… I didn’t like myself until I was about 16, and then something just clicked… Ever since then, I’ve liked who I am, whether I can just make Toast, or Make a Beautiful Dinner.
Good Self Esteem probably has more to do with it than anything else… Trying to Force yourself to be something you’re not, is never a good thing. Not in my Experience anyway… It really takes Whacks at your Self Esteem… Find something that you really are Great at, and run with it
Otherwise it’s almost like Living in a Fantasy… Trying to make something real that isn’t… And once again, that just isn’t good for your Self Esteem… It’s the Opposite of Self Acceptance, which is Key to having a Truly Satisfying Life, at least in My Opinion. My Recommendation to you is to Enjoy the Fact that you can Truly Appreciate a Good Voice… In fact, you may consider going into Music Producing… Not everyone Knows Talent when they see or hear it, and it sounds like you have an Eye and Ear for it
I feel bad for Solieri not because he doesn’t have the talent of Mozart, after all that type of thing is so rare… And often people like Mozart are equally tortured by their Gifts… I felt bad for him because he didn’t Appreciate His Own Talent, and how highly he was respected by his peers… I always felt “Wow, he could have really Helped Guide Mozart”, who was obviously Troubled, and getting Worse… Yes, you might consider being an Agent or a Producer of Music… There’s a lot of talented people out there who either don’t realize it, or Don’t have Good Representation.

I have it on tape, and watch it at least once a year 🙂 timeless! brilliant film from all aspects, the part when he is first introduced to the emperor, with Salieri`s music of welcome, is priceless, the acting by everybody is perfection! a truly great film!
Can I ask, have you talked about another of the timeless films, the masterpiece by David Lean, Doctor Zivago…. “bring a tear to a glass eye” it is also responsible for changing womens winter fashion in the west forever!!

I haven’t Written About “Doctor Zivago”, I actually haven’t seen it in a very long time… Need to watch it again… But I am a Huge David Lean Fan, I’ve seen “Lawrence of Arabia” many times…

I Love This Film, chances are one if not many of the Acting Performances will hit home for you… Either that, or the Overall Production in General.
I hope you enjoy it this time around.

I have loved this film since I first saw it. It is hysterically funny and ultimately so, so sad.
For some reason now I have the Falco song of the same name stuck in my head though.
