Yes, we did it! Portugal won the Eurovision Song Contest with no fireworks, no screaming, no crazy dancing, no English frothy lyrics, no glitz backgrounds. Instead, we went for simplicity, authenticity, content and feeling. Apparently less can be more even at Eurovision!
What a great day it was for the Music World! We proved there’s still hope for Eurovision and that musical quality, talent and thinking out of the box still pay off.
Salvador’s song – “Amar pelos Dois” – felt like a breath of fresh air among his opponents. His unique interpretation, the timeless melody and the beautiful lyrics composed by his sister were the key to a sublime performance.
We waited more than 50 years to win a contest that is part of the memories of generations of Portuguese people. Well, it was totally worth it! We, as Portuguese, may all be very proud of bringing true feeling to Eurovision.

Sim, conseguimos! Portugal ganhou o Festival Eurovisão da Canção sem fogos de artifício, sem gritos, sem danças loucas, sem letras ocas em inglês, sem fundos ofuscantemente brilhantes. Pelo contrário, apostámos na simplicidade, na autenticidade, no conteúdo e na emoção. Aparentemente menos pode ser mais até na Eurovisão!
Que dia fantástico para a música mundial! Provámos que ainda há esperança para a Eurovisão e que a qualidade musical, o talento e pensar fora da caixa ainda compensam.
