Officially known as Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, the 10th of June constitutes our national holiday here in Portugal. This date commemorates the death of Luís de Camões, a significant figure our national literature, on 10 June 1580. Camões is famous for his work on “Os Lusíadas”, the national epic poem of Portugal that celebrates the nation’s successes and rich history. The Lusiads is an epic poem that depicts the Portuguese achievements in world explorations in the Golden era. Portugal played an key role in the discovery of the new world during the 16th century and their accomplishments have definitely put this European country on the map. Having that in mind, to all Portuguese people around the world: Happy Portugal Day!

Oficialmente conhecido como o Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas, o 10 de Junho constitui o nosso feriado nacional aqui em Portugal. Esta data comemora a morte de Luís de Camões, uma figura significativa da literatura nacional, a 10 de Junho de 1580. Camões é famoso por seu trabalho em "Os Lusíadas", o poema épico de exaltação a Portugal, que celebra os sucessos do país e a riqueza histórica. O Lusíadas retratam as conquistas portuguesas na exploração do mundo. Portugal desempenhou um papel fundamental na descoberta do novo mundo durante o século XVI. Assim sendo, a todos os portugueses espalhados pelo mundo: Feliz Dia de Portugal!
