London, UK
Some of us heard the news about the closure of The Travel Bookshop, the bookstore who inspired Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts in the movie Notting Hill. It’s sad to know such a lovely place won’t be able to offer tourists its charm anymore.
Directed by Roger Michell, the film was well received by critics, and became the highest grossing British film released back in 1999.
The music was composed by Trevor Jones. Several additional songs written by other artists including Elvis Costello’s cover of the Charles Aznavour song "She", Shania Twain’s remixed version of "You’ve Got A Way", as well as Ronan Keating’s specially recorded cover of "When You Say Nothing at All" were a reason why the movie was so successful.

I didn’t realize it was a real bookstore. I’m sorry to hear it has had to close. Competition from chain bookstores, I suppose. What a shame. Great movie.
One of my favorite movies. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely film that is 🙂 And I like Notting Hill 🙂
Hello! Read here:http://havehest.wordpress.com/2012/03/07/the-versatile-blogger-award-no-3/
Ann
Thank you so much for the award and for visiting Ann =) I really appreciate it
I not Only own this Film, but I’ve watched it maybe 60 times, lol
Yes, I am a Hopeless Romantic, and an Avid Hugh Grant Fan
But more than that, the Supporting Cast was just Awesome
And like you say, the Music really helped to make this Film a Joy to watch
I also own “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, and “Love Actually”, and watch them all… But Notting Hill is My Favorite
Nice Review
DarkJade-
Love Actually is a pretty good film too, totally agree!
Thanks, DarkJade =)
Well, Hugh Grant and Bill Nighy are the Best Part about Love Actually
And I actually like the Premise, “Love Actually… Is All Around You” All the Airport Scenes of people Hugging Etc., pretty cool… Sadly, with all the Security in Airports these days, those shots probably aren’t even possible anymore, lol
Pretty Sad
DarkJade-
Ahah those wouldn’t probably be a good idea nowadays, as they’re very strict with airport security .. The only thing I didn’t quite enjoy in this film was the way they pictured Portuguese people.. It was a little too caricatured to my taste xD
Anyway, it was a great success for Lucia Moniz as an actress! Even though I still prefer her as a singer… She’s got a very beautiful and clean Voice!
Ha, totally forgot she was Portuguese… Oh wow, I didn’t realize she was a singer, lol… I’m watchen her on YouTube now… Wow, she does have a very clean voice… But yeah, I actually liked her in the movie, but I know exactly what you mean by being caricatured… The truth is, a lot of the Characters in that movie were a bit too cliche’.
But like I say, I really enjoyed Hugh Grant and Bill Nighy
DarkJade-
You may like Mazzy Star Ana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImKY6TZEyrI or perhaps you’ve already heard of her… I was given a copy of their “Among The Swan” album back in 1998 or 1999 by a good friend who had been married in Germany, her husband was in the Service, they were both American but he was outposted there… She was very lonely there, and would listen to the “Among The Swan” album over and over and watch the snow fall outside her window well he would be at work… I too listened to this album over and over again, but for me it was Eugene, Oregon in the U.S…. And instead of snow, it was rain… It’s a really amazing album
DarkJade-
Oh I didn’t know them but It’s pretty good! Thanks =)
Aww, I hate to hear of special stores that close. Makes me feel like I’m living inside You’ve Got Mail. 😦
Thanks for the flashback this morning! I can definitely remember rewinding these scenes over & over. On VHS. Of course.
I didn’t know…that so sad. It’s so typical English that bookshop….
And well about the film…. I just LOVE it!!! Seen it so many times…. 🙂
I didn’t hear the news…that’s awful. I love that movie!
vai fechar? que pena 😦
Creio que até já está fechada, considerando que até agora ainda não se ouviu falar de nenhuma solução concreta..
