1. Oslo
Norway’s capital is an easy-going city with an eclectic architectural mix of old and new that is hard not to like. The perfect size for exploring on foot, the city boasts world-class museums, a lively nightlife and plenty of outdoor activities.
2. Bergen
Surrounded by seven hills and seven fjords, Bergen is a beautiful, charming city. With great museums, friendly locals and a dynamic cultural life Bergen deserves as much time as you can give it.
3. Trondheim
Trondheim, Norway’s original capital, is nowadays the country’s third-largest city after Oslo and Bergen. With its wide streets and partly pedestrianized heart, it’s a simply lovely city with a long history. Fuelled by a large student population, it buzzes with life.
4. Stavanger
With its centre arrayed around a pretty harbour with the quiet streets of the old town climbing up from the water’s edge, it’s a picturesque place. However Stavanger’s appeal is as much about atmosphere as anything else. Most nights, especially in summer, the city’s waterfront comes alive and can get quite rowdy. The Lyse fjord near Stavanger is one of the most spectacular fjords in Norway.
5. Tromsø
I’ve already made a post about this wonderful city here. Its corona of snow-topped peaks provides arresting scenery, excellent hiking in summer and great skiing and dog-sledding in winter.

I have visited all of these places except Tromso and you are absolutely correct. They are cities of immense charm and character hidden in a country brimful of natural beauty.
Wow, you make my little country seem all tourist friendly and semi-urban. I didn’t really know it could be either of those. Nice 🙂

Oh how I would love to see Norway…my paternal Grandparents came from Norway to America in the 1880’s…the house I live in was built in 1920 for my Great Grandmother who traveld from Norway when she was 76 to this new land…can you imagine what she would have seen. I love both the ocean and mountains…someday I will explore Norway…thank you for the beautiful pictures 🙂
