Deus quer, o homem sonha, a obra nasce.

Deus quis que a terra fosse toda uma,

Que o mar unisse, já não separasse.

Sagrou-te, e foste desvendando a espuma,

 

E a orla branca foi de ilha em continente,

Clareou, correndo, até ao fim do mundo,

E viu-se a terra inteira, de repente,

Surgir, redonda, do azul profundo.

 

Quem te sagrou criou-te português,

Do mar e nós em ti nos deu sinal.

Cumpriu-se o Mar, e o Império se desfez.

Senhor, falta cumprir-se Portugal.

Tal como Pessoa acreditava, Portugal é muito mais do que a terra que as suas fronteiras definem. Portugal é a língua, a cultura, o espírito, a alma. Portugal são as tradições, as gentes, as paisagens inconfundíveis. Tudo isto faz com que seja único e encantador. Tudo isto é PORTUGAL!

O objectivo do “All This Is PORTUGAL” é simples: mostrar aos Portugueses que o nosso país tem muito mais valor do que a maioria imagina e dar a conhecer ao Mundo a beleza, a singularidade e a relevância do País.

As Pessoa believed, Portugal is so much more than the land its borders define. Portugal is the language, the culture, the spirit, the soul. Portugal are the traditions, the people, the unmatched landscapes.All this makes it unique and charming. All this is PORTUGAL!

The purpose of "All This Is PORTUGAL" is simple: to show the Portuguese people that our country has much more value than most realize and also to make known to the world the beauty, uniqueness and relevance of the Country.

Today’s post is dedicated to my Portuguese speaking viewers because the poem I want to share only makes sense to me in Portuguese.

Hoje, partilho convosco um poema de Eugénio de Castro sobre Coimbra e sobre os Palácios Confusos. Para quem não conhece, Eugénio de Castro nasceu, em Coimbra, em 1869, tendo sido poeta e professor universitário. A sua obra literária  dá especial enfâse ao aspecto estético, à música das palavras e à própria beleza das imagens.

Palácios Confusos

Na minha doce Coimbra, a sul virado,

Dominando o Mondego e os seus salgueiros,

Há um bairro de humildes pardieiros,

Que Palácios Confusos é chamado.

 

Tão belo nome no passado

Rica chusma de paços altaneiros

Com torres, grimpas, varandins ligeiros

E flâmulas a arder no céu lavado.

 

O tempo voador, que tudo come,

De tais riquezas só poupou o nome;

Tudo ali hoje é pobre, velho e estreito,

 

Sem um vislumbre do esplendor extinto!

Ó Palácios Confusos, também sinto

Uns Palácios Confusos no meu peito!
