Unsurprisingly it was a late start in the morning. We headed back off the bus and went out back on the road, First stop we parked in a n obscure carp park and walk down a dusty lane and up a hill to the most impressive views of this:IMG_7628

We headed back out onto the road towards the Grand Canyon. We eventually got there and got our first taste of the enormity of it.

The best way however to get a view of the the Canyon is form the Air!

So some of us when off to the airport, we were weighed, introduced to our (very cool) pilot with his aviators and then sat within the helicopter. Unfortunately with a helicopter full of ladies – I was pretty much the heaviest so I was put right in the middle back seat. Oh well. Any way we took off and the pilot got us to introduce our selves. With no hesitation I said I loved flying… and got the reply “You won;t mind if I do this”, pitched up and down very quickly, resulting in some muted screams from the ladies. (Unfortunately I got a DVD of the ride (yes I know I’m a sucker) and its not obvious why there is sudden screaming in the video).

Any way peering over the shoulders of everyone I still managed to see some impressive views and scenes. Sadly the sky was a bit washed out so the colours of the canyon aren’t fantastic.

We then drove back down to the campsite and found it surrounded by Elk. These thing are like dear – but 3 times as big. Good job they aren’t carnivores because they could easily eat you. I just wanted them to stay away form my tent in the night!

Here is the route from today
