… to visit Petra, Jordan
“It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.”

Me too
It really is an amazing place, very atmospheric and I can confirm, that the Jordanians are really lovely people
Don’t give up on your dream of going to Jordan. The whole country is beautiful and amazing with charming people.
Petra is just one albeit the most famous of a whole series of attractions. As someone else said, nothing against Egypt which is a one-off place I have visited several times but Jordan is quieter and less spoilt and somewhere I could live one day.
Didn’t they use this in “Raiders of The Lost Ark”? Ever the Film Person I know, Lol
But I’ve seen this place in several Films I think
DJ-
Amazing place!
I first learned about this only a few days ago. It’s magnificent, but I couldn’t find good photos like these. Thanks for sharing.
I too have visited Petra…incredible and took my breath away as i walked along the ancient trail through the incredible canyon….seeing the ancient water system…and then seeing the Treasury…WOW…truly seeing it in person you wonder how did they do this….they did not have the tools we have today and the craved into rock city is truly a God miracle….and it is beautiful to see. I loved Jordan too…Mt. Nebo was awesome as well as Petra:)
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience here =)
I loved seeing Petra….incredibly ancient and beautiful.
This one’s pretty high up on my wish list. It’s like a phantasmagorical dream set in stone.
Amazing metaphor
I think the Middle East has many wonders – Jordan obviously being one of them. I hope to get to see them one day…
I have visited Petra and Jordan.
Forget Egypt. The Jordanians are lovely people and will give you no hassle whatsoever. Warm, open and honest.
Touts are almost non existent, which can not be said for Egypt where my experience was constantly ruined by being hassled by one tout, after another, after another, after another.
There is nothing quite like being the first to walk through the canyon as the sun comes up to get that first glimpse of the ‘treasury’.
I studied archaeology and was so disappointed when I took a research trip to Egypt. Petra has the atmosphere that all archaeological sites should have, good preservation in situ.
Every turn was like turning a corner back in time. My three day visit left my eager for more.
All I can say is GO!
Note: I only use Egypt in comparison, as my trip there made me swear never to return to the region. Jordan changed all that.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience =)
And me! And me! And me! (are you getting the message?)
