Paula Scher is an American graphic designer, illustrator, painter and art educator in design, from Washington, DC. Scher creates images that speak to the audience with emotional impact and appeal and her work have become visually identical with NYC’s culture. In 2006, during an exhibition at Maya Stendhal gallery in New York City, she painted two 9-by-12-foot maps that resembled patchwork quilts, only with much textual detail. Her maps are obsessive, opinionated and completely personal. They offer us an exuberant portrait of how complex and subjective contemporary information is. Scher’s new book of her paintings, MAPS, was published last year and recently went into its second printing. Today, I thought her work and talent were worth sharing!

Scher cria imagens que falam para o público com impacto emocional e apelativo e o seu trabalho tornou-se visualmente idêntico ao estilo e  cultura de Nova Iorque. Em 2006, durante uma exposição na galeria Maya Stendhal em Nova York, ela pintou dois  mapas que pareciam mantas de retalhos, apenas com imensos detalhes textuais. Os seus mapas são obsessivos, opinativos e completamente pessoais. Eles oferecem-nos um retrato exuberante do quão complexa e subjetiva a informação contemporânea é.
